"This Blog is so Dead" - Wx

This entry is an attempt to liven up the blog and appease Lieutenant Chong, Chief Logistic Officer of the Singapore Army, who appears more than capable to become the Chief of Waterboys in ESFC after his national slavery has ended. Enjoy!

How to Play Football Part III

"I love challenging myself against all the best players," he said. "I watch how good they are, but when we play them I think to myself 'right, I'm going to see how good you really are, Fabregas, Lampard and Gerrard. I'm going to get amongst you and see how you like it.

"And when you've not got the ball, I'm still going to get about you and see how you like it'.

"I'm going to ask you do you fancy it? Do you like getting kicked? Do you like the fact that I'm going to be at you for the whole 90 minutes? As soon as you get the ball I'm going to be in your face.

"You're not going to like it one bit. And when we have the ball, I'm going to run you into the corner and you're going to have to follow me. Are you ready for that? Because that's what's going to happen.

"That's my attitude and I don't feel I've come off second best to anyone this season."

- Fletcher himself is emerging as a lynchpin in United's midfield and he relishes competing against the league's best

But then again, in my opinion he's not as tough as this other guy who also played for Manchester United before.

How to play football Part I

In a bid to straighten out the pussies in the team, Josh has gladly contributed this video to one of the most important aspects in our football education - how to play like a warrior on the pitch.

Enjoy the video and see you on pitch-side soon. :)

Josh: Eh knn Kim don't anyhow say me! As Salvor Hardin of Foundation once said, "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent." Be hard but not dirty... But once in awhile let go also good la. Less stress can live longer! :D

Kim: Eh Knn Josh, to borrow a famous phrase from a famous dickhead, "only true friend tells you straight in the face." Don't deny your true nature, you dirt bag!

Friendly friendly

A friendly was played out in good spirit today at FTPSS with the Everyday Sundays emerging victorious over the opponents amusingly named, Sunday FC (can someone confirm this)!

Long benefitted from Peng's vision and sublime passing as the former calmly placed the ball out of the keeper's reach. Kim Sin Ting sealed the win as he converted Nathan's penalty with aplomb, giving the keeper -100% chance of saving. Special mention to Yenhao for being the fastest centre-back in the world, and Zhong for 'handballing' with his shoulder! No break dance today? ):

Friendly Loss

ESFC, or rather what was left of it, returned to the Yishun pitch after the dramatic end of last season's title-losing game. To be succinct, ESFC have some of the most loyal fans and a team full of players who are very talented, hard working, and dedicated to the cause. However, the day started with only 8 players, with one having extreme hangover and the other praying to God he won't get mobilized during the match, plus 1 hot prospect who, everyone thought was Darren at first but minus the antics and Oscar-award winning rolling and diving.

Game started with an 3-4-1 formation with Wx in goal, Weilin, Eugene and Hanting in defence and Adib, who arrived late and took an eternity to warm up, to play the centre-midfield role with Jason Ang and Kim. "Darren-MarkII" played on the Left of midfield and Nathan completed the puzzle with his Emile Heskey style striking role.

Well, ESFC lost 4-3 against a side who fielded 11 players plus a sub on the bench. But the opponents struggled against the valiant ESFC players who kept them on their back foot to play catching up for the most part of the game.

Bench-warmer expert Adib showed his prowess in front of goal to score two and assist another for Darren-MarkII who also scored on his impressive debut. Cries of "RAMESH, get this Indian off the bench!" were heard from the foreign workers crowd that had gathered to watch the Bollywood star playing for ESFC.

Wenxiong was a lucky boy he wasn’t sent off for his rash challenge on an opponent and his "save" from the penalty spot. There have been murmurings amongst the supporters that the midfield destroyer really destroys people and cries of "Paul Scholes" were also heard among the sports analysts.

Good game guys! Hope you enjoyed it.

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Good Luck!

All the best to the seven outstanding players of ESFC who are going to represent their respective universities in the up and coming Singapore University Games also known as Sunig. Please do remember to play hard and don't give chance to your fellow teammates if they are playing against you. (hint:Josh)

Also.. beware, Adib is back..

Stats

The season is finally over and as most of us are returning back to our respective schools to start new(not so now) semester, let's take some time off to reflect on our participation in Sporting Light Football League in the first half of 2009.

We got 2nd place but it does not really matter anyway. We've shown everyone in this league that we're the better team.

Sunday, August 2, 2009

4-1

Despite a comfortable win over the (mostly) valiant Kum Yans, an unfortunate red card incident and accumulation of yellows meant that two points were deducted from the three that we secured today. It's all in the hands feet of Frankel now. It's been remarkably fun guys; no regrets but only fond memories of time spent with awesome people such as yourself. CHEERS! :)

3-1

ESFC displayed character to come back from conceding a disappointing sucker punch to score three goals and claim all three points in this pivotal match against the jubilant Jubilees.

Kim's tenacity throughout the match paid off handsomely as his outer-foot shot cross flew into the net from an impossible angle, before Ragen marked his return with a predatory finish. Adib finished off the game with barely minutes to go with aplomb with a stunning volley, after frustratingly hitting the crossbar in the first half.

MotM Figo was instrumental to the victory as his hard running and tackles put the game in our favour. 2 more games to go gents- the trophy is for us to win!

3-3

ESFC slumped to a draw with the swift Teban Thunder players this thunderous and sodden evening.

Sin Ting, Boon and Nathan all scored to gift our side a precious, fortuitous point. The absence of a goalkeeper and several key players were sorely felt, and their return this coming week will surely result in a better team performance.

8 - 1

Despite HR issues, ESFC recorded an emphatic victory over the spirited NC Eagles, claiming top spot of the table. Adibeyor's return yielded dividends in the form of goals and bruises; while "Hat-Trickster" Sin Ting almost became "Clean-Sheeter". All in all, a superb team performance that has given the Sundaians strong impteus for the second half of the league. Keep up the good work, guys!

1-1

Pengiesta scored a scorcher of a volley against emulous Leslie's valiant Y Homeless FC, before a defensive lapse allowed our opposition to equalize in the closing minutes of the game. A good prelude to the impending restart of the Sporting Light League.

Sunday, June 21, 2009

ESFC cruised to a victory in a friendly against not-so-friendly opponents. Ragen grabbed a brace while Jason aka Cleo Ferdinand, Waki Alves and Ah-Long-so opened their scoring accounts; combative Kim "Kio Sai Zai" suffered an unjust boot to his shoulder from the opposition's motherfuckerfather of a keeper. Get well soon, destroyer!

PS: As much as we can, we will try to never walk onto the Yishun pitch ever again. ^_^

We have arranged matches against quality opponents at quality pitches and both friendlies are important to test out new stuffs and keep our match fitness at an optimal level before the season restarts on the 27th. Hopefully, there wouldn't be any fightings or remarks such as "go outside 1-on-1 lah!" AND "An Chua? Buey Song Mai Seng Kiu Lah? KNNBCCB@#$%^&*(&^%$#$%^..."

For now, most of the lads have not committed their attendance yet so please let me know ASAP your availability.

Anyway, nice game I found from another site. Click here to play. Go on, take your shot at that Barca fan.

1-1

Great passing game. One mistake. One superb header. One red card and some fist fights.

And then, spending the rest of the day together doing crazy things. Brilliant~

Sunday, May 31, 2009

2-0

Everyday Sunday FC defeated the valiant Maestros by a narrow margin. Nathan's explosive header from Pengiesta's in-swinging corner put the Reds up, before Josh latched onto (yet another) Peng's sublime pass effort and dispatched it into the empty net in the final minute of the game.

Between the two goals, however, Wenxiong "Figo", skilfully prevented the opponent from getting the ball by balancing himself on the ball for five seconds before accidentally handling it, resulting in a penalty...

Zhong, our team's breakdancer extraordinaire, performed his own rendition of Wenxiong's move and demonstrated his astounding skills for the surrounding spectators to awesome effect. This superb reenactment probably affected the opposition's concentration, leading the taker to miss the penalty. Well done!

Pictures and videos coming soon!

I'm surprised that they changed the venue without informing us to this very last moment and luckily, I did a check. What inspired such a sudden change of venue, we do not know but it is imperative that we play to the whistle and once again STFU (i hope Zhong will know what it means this time.) I'm not saying much because I fear someone has been lurking in the corner reading but you will know what I mean. More importantly, some of the lads have been working hard behind the scene with the Committee of this league in the past week to sort out some problems with the Referees, which we feel, show a lack of neutrality in our games so far.

Nevertheless, let's do it. Against all odds, we must stand together and play as a team. See ya @ Sunday, Everyday Sunday. :D

Monday, May 25, 2009

2-1

ESFC was largely uninspired and lacklustre today despite a good showing in attendance; we were fortunate to claim all three points against the spirited Zenith side. Boon's tenacity allowed him to level the score after the Sundays conceded from a stunning indirect flukekick freekick in the first minute. In the second half, Chila-Nathan-vert, true to his word (say you'll strike toto leh), scored the winner in brilliant fashion to claim victory of this forgettable physical (coughstudscough) encounter. As the adage goes, "Champions win even when they play poorly." Heads up, team!

This week's game, we have two objectives. One is to WIN and reestablish ourselves as the table leader. Two is to STFU and play our game. Don't be influence by Referee's bad decision and if the decisions are not to our favor, just move away. Even if you're damn unhappy, just release those frustration by scoring/assisting or celebrating like me. Haha!

The card system of the league is like our achilles' heel. We cannot afford to get any more points deducted because Frankel definitely WILL NOT be receiving any cards because of........(highly controversial if i mentioned) so they are going to pounce on any mistakes that we make. So play smart and STFU. Leave the talking to Captain Boon.

Believe me, there is an agenda from other teams to get us being carded the most so please don't fall into their trap.

7-1

Despite the match being played on a Saturday, Everyday Sunday recovered from a poor first half to dominate proceedings in the restart against the valiant SGX brokers. Ragen's debut in the infamous spicy red shirt led to the first goal of this scintillating match- a predatory header past the wrong-footed keeper; however, the opposition equalized with a solid counter-attack.

In the second half, Josh converted Pengiesta's penalty kick with aplomb as the Sundays steadily gained a foothold. Boon was dissatisfied with his unspectacular goal scored in the swansong of his Vapors, but a goal is a goal nonetheless. Ragen added to his tally with a smart finish from a swift move between NTU hall champions Peng and Boon. Zhong abandoned his defensive partner Jason (who has inconsolable, by the way) to drive a hard low shot past the SGX keeper, before marauding winger Guo Xing capped off a brilliant game with an accurate drive. Better luck next time, Waki Alves!

Darren's physical absence was felt and heard, as at times the Temasek Secondary School pitch was peacefully serene. The entire back line was outstanding and stood resolutely firm against numerous attempts to breach our defence.

Glory glory Man United!!! Champs League, here we come :)

3-0

ESFC recorded their third successive victory in the league, scoring a hat trick of goals and acquiring three points. Josh assisted his fellow adiPure bro, Pengayoun with a layoff and a flicked header, both of which the latter converted with powered precision. Wen-figo-xiong capitalized on Kim's headed flick, slotting the loose ball past the spirited Momentos' goal line for the third goal.

Van der Simon registered yet another brilliant performance for the Spice Boyz, saving AND holding onto a few point-blank shots for his coveted second clean sheet.

This is mean and I'm bound to get a earful from Sergeant Major Goh but I hope the message is clear.

Sunday, May 3, 2009

4-0

ESFC put a milestone of goals past the Frankel goal line today as the return of several key players marked the Sundaians/Spice Boys' return to form as well.

Josh put the horror of last week's penalty miss behind him as he opened the scoring after finding acres (and years) from Boon's pinpoint cross; Peng's brilliant run and pace allowed him to round the opposition keeper with ease before nonchalantly slotting home; Boon's superb angled lob left the keeper flapping for thin air, and industrious MotM Wenxiong finished off the rebound from a free-kick. The ref must have thought Kim removed his shirt, for the latter received a yellow card for 'over-celebrating'.

This match, played on the flawless Meridian JC pitch, was marred with some Frankel players misintepreting some of our players' remarks- we were passing your man down some water, and we were applauding our own player for managing to keep the ball in.

All in all, a deserved score line and another 3 (thanks a lot Mr UOL, aka Sin Ting :D Good luck for your exams and have fun hahaha!!!) 2 points.

Adib: "Deh, if you can find me, I will make one kambing murtabak for you! Maybe, I will also make one teh tarik, ah neh style, for you! So... if you know where's Adib, just ring me up!"

2-1

ESFC's overall performance in their first Sporting Light League outing was poor. Individual passes, shots (kim's sitter and penalty included nbcb), control and teamwork was as inconsistent as the undulating Yishun pitch; this led to several unforced errors which the energetic opponents capitalized on, scoring the first goal of this open game.

Fortunately, defensive stalwart Zhong's penetrating run led to the Sundays' maiden goal, and Kim's follow-up to Boon's parried free-kick led to the match winner. On the other end, Simon was the unsung hero of the match as he stood firm against numerous goal attempts.

As the commentators' adage goes, "Champions win even when they play badly." Let's look forward and play better this coming Sunday! Majulah ESFC!

Rules of the League

Alright Manutd fans,

Here are the more important rules and regulation for this league which I think the team (myself and Wak especially) should remember all the time.
  1. Any team that accumulates 5 yellow cards in the course of the tournament will have 1 point deducted from the team.
  2. Players accumulating 2 yellow cards would be banned 1 game.
  3. Players accumulating 1 red card would be banned 2 games.
  4. Any team that accumulates 1 red card in the course of the tournament will have 1 point deducted from the team; 2 red cards 2 points, etc.
  5. The decision of the referee and match official must be respected. Players and onlookers must not shout any instructions to the referee. Should there be any issue arising from the match, team managers could make this known in writing to the SLL Committee. The decision of the SLL Committee must be respected. (Some bangla guy, I'm not naming who, please take note.)
  6. The Committee takes a very serious view of fighting and the player or players involved may be banned from the tournament if found guilty. (Gangster aka Ethan please take note.)
Play fair like Zhong and clean like Adib ya.

Sporting Light League

Hi lads,

We have officially joined this league that consists of 12 teams. As I have mentioned in the previous post, I'm worried about the number of players who can turn up for these 3/5pm games so hopefully my fears will not come true this time round.

Anyway, I hope there is a better sense of commitment to the team and not let history repeats itself. The next game will be on 26th April 5pm at our favorite Yishun field against a team that we might have played before.

Finally, I wish for the best to the varsities undergraduates(including myself) who are taking their exams during the next few weeks and come back stronger for our future games.

And... Since the next game is going to be on 26th, I think Darren should be free to participate then. Let's welcome him with our bukkakes!

Season 3

Tentatively, these are the calculations for the Season 3. The negative connotation at the 'Total Balance' determines the amount of money that the you owe the team. A positive one will mean that team owes u that amount of money.

Therefore, for Season 3 at Playsports League, just pay $50 first and I will have a balance of $700+ for next season.

Any changes please contact me because I think there may be some miscalculations.

Thanks!

Some thoughts please

Recently, Boon and myself have been discussing on joining a new league that may accommodate the relentless and unforgiving university schedules. However, my main concern for joining this league is that the games are going to be on either Sat or Sun on different weeks(depending on the availability of pitches) which i think will lead to the inconsistency of the number of players available for games. Also, it would be played on either 3pm or 5pm which i feel, from my point of view, may affect our other social activities.

I will furnish the details for this league here and please tell me what you feel about this league by using voting poll, comments or tagboard.
  1. Sporting Light League is spearheaded Mr. Brian Pereira, of Bethesda Frankel Estate Church. This is a Christian influenced league but they accept non-religious groups as well.
  2. Games are held on Saturdays or Sundays at a few synthetic fields in S'pore such as First Toa Payoh Sec Sch, Temasek Sec Sch, Meridian JC and etc at either 3pm or 5pm.
  3. The league allows rolling substitution throughout.
  4. Any team receiving 5 yellows will get 1 pt deducted. Also, 1 red card 1 point deducted, 2 red 2 points and etc. The main reason is to curb rough play.
  5. All participating teams will get 2 balls and a medical kit. There will also be a June break.
  6. Also, there will be a trophy presentation and a makan session at the end of the season.
  7. Cost of competition: $1200/-

Events after our acrimonious exit

Hi Kim Yuan,

It is unfortunate that your team has decided to withdraw from the league.
However, as we have book the pitches for your team for March, we will need
to charge your team for the pitches booked.

League outstanding fees: $270 (Matches 5 to 7)
Pitches for March: $150 (8th Mar - Fuhua Secondary, 15th Mar - Fuchun
Secondary, 22nd Mar - Fuchun Secondary)
Total amount: $420

Please get back to me asap. Thanks.

Cheers,
Shaun
http://www.playsports.com.sg

Hi Shaun,

Thanks for the kind understanding. Anyway, I will settle the amount with you asap. May I know what will happen to the $100 deposit?

Regards,
Kim Yuan

Hi Kim Yuan,

The $100 is only refundable upon completion of the league, thus the amount
will not be refunded to your team.

Cheers,
Shaun

=================================================

First, due to the exit, we have got to make these unnecessary payments. I just want to let you guys know that even if we're in the league, we're also wasting $ playing because of the lack of players. Simply to say, to carry on playing with 10-11 players per week, each player has to pay $9 and due to the current situation, I need to divide the amount of $150 unfairly between everyone who has participated in the league. It does not matter whether one has played 1 game or 7 games, the amount will be unfairly divided to $150/17(don't include Peng, Darren, Weilin, Jason Ang, Ethan and Nathan) = $9

Therefore, if a player like, e.g. Zhonglun, Josh, Ah Liang and Long, has played in every game this season, they will have to fork out $72. BUT, due to the accumulation of $ brought forward from previous seasons, some may not have to fork out at all and $ will be used from that 'reserve'.

The formula is: You play more, you pay more and we know your COMMITMENT to the cause.

For now, I'm still calculating the amount of money everyone owes to the team and vice-versa and please forgive me if I'm taking a long while due to my other commitments such as school, nursing home, police and GF :( . For now, I would try to clear the Playsports debt ASAP because our name are already bad enough in the league with real damning remarks.

Finally, it is solely MY decision to withdraw from the league.

Personally, I would like to apologize to 'new' players like Guoxing, Hanting, Ah Liang and Razee for recruiting you guys to play football together and harshly taking it away from you. This issue has been a perennial problem since the start of our season 2 back in Div 4 Espzen and I feel that we're not enjoying our games anymore. There are reasons aplenty and I do not want to dwell into that, for it seems pointless anyway. I apologize again for making such a huge decision without consulting anyone of you and if anyone was to be blamed, please direct it at me.

Looking back, when we first envisaged on joining an amateur league in Jan 2008 after dominating those senseless friendlies, there were some who commented that the team would become too serious and lose all the fun of Sunday football. I disagreed.

But now, it seems that my forever-injured friend was right after all.

P/S: PLEASE DO NOT THINK I'M BEING 'EMO'. These are just some of my honest thoughts. Assholes.

Sunday, March 1, 2009

Due to unfortunate and inconvenient circumstances, and the resulting lack of commitment, we are withdrawing from Playsports with immediate effect.

To paraphrase Adib: A soccer team has its up and downs. We had our fair share of ups and now is the time for downs. We will be back once everyone has rediscovered that hunger to achieve something together and play to the best of our individual and collective abilities. We are NOT disbanding, we are just taking time off after a long and unfruitful season.

It's been a real honour and pleasure playing alongside you guys all these years, and I hope to do so again in the near future. ESPZEN Sunday League Season 11 kicks off in June/July. Meanwhile, let's watch Manchester United massacre the competition together!

First draw, conceded right at the death

ESFC started promisingly but fatigue and a lack of creativity led to the reds slumping to a 4-4 draw against the spirited Club De Futbol Bishane Pak players. Like what Zhong said, although we dropped two points today, at least we broke the hexed chain of always losing after a victory. Heads up, team!

ESFC, like reigning champions Manchester United, resumed winning ways and defeated the tenacious Team Tsubasa 2-1 on an inexplicably sandy and LEAFY pitch. Good game, reds (our shirt colour, we are not communists)!

Monday, February 2, 2009

An uninspired and undermanned ESFC slumped to a 1-0 defeat at the hands feet of their former schoolmates at X-S FC. But it's alright, because failure (and more people) is the mother of all success! :) Gong xi fa cai to all!
